Spyware Can Ruin Your Computer Life

By: Frank Thomas

If your computer has ever started acting in strange ways by popping up advertising windows or taking you to places that you never intended to visit then there's a good chance that your computer has been infected by adware or spyware. If you are experiencing that now there's probably no way to immediately know whether you have a minor problem or a major problem. What we do know is that you have to deal with the problem quickly.

The term spyware refers to programs of various sorts which are snuck onto your computer by unscrupulous and unethical marketers. Sometimes that's the best thing that can be said about them. Other times, carried to the extreme, these programs are installed on your computer by people who hope to steal everything that you have. Their game plan is to learn anything and everything about you and their goal is to destroy you financially. You simply must defend your self against spyware if you are going to be using your computer to access the Internet.

Also, just because you are not having any problems at the moment does not mean that you can relax if you are not currently running a strong anti-spyware program on your computer. A recent report has disclosed that nine out of 10 computers in the repair shop for various ailments or upgrades actually have spyware already installed on them. In many cases it was more than just one spyware program and on average if there was one spyware program there were a dozen.

Spyware can be a minor irritation or a major problem. When the problems are minor you may not experience anything other than your computer running slower than what you are used to enjoying. When they are major problems they can actually shut down your computer when the software does not function as the designer had originally intended. And, there's no one for you to complain to either.

One of the frequent ways that we first become aware of spyware in our computer is, for instance, when we go to our favorite search engine and type in a search phrase then suddenly to our surprise one or more ads may pop up in separate windows advertising products that have something in common with the search phrase that we have just entered into the search engine. This is a sure tip-off that your computer is infected with at least one spyware program.

You may also find yourself suffering from an invasion of Trojans. Trojans are programs that once again are stuck on your computer without you being aware and frequently take over control of your computer. Quite often these are used by people playing a practical joke on a friend. They will set up a Trojan to pop up funny pictures at random on the victim's computer monitor and sometimes alternate this with the CD drawer of the computer popping open and closed at random times. However, Trojans can be more serious as they can be used to give access to your computer by people that you will never meet.

These people that you never meet have evil intentions. Their desire is to spy on you and scan through your computer looking for important confidential information. Confidential information such as your credit card number or numbers and passwords to your banking accounts. Their intention is nothing less than taking you broke. You can be sure that if they gain access to your computer they will show you no mercy.

If you do not have some kind of software protection on your computer at the very least you are being very foolish. Yes, it can be an added expense, just like adding a monitor to your computer makes it more functional but costs additional money. In today's society it is absolutely essential that you have some kind of constant protection on your computer so that you're not invaded by spyware. Whether you use the free program from Microsoft or you spend the $30-$40 necessary to get heavy duty industrial strength anti-spyware software on your computer it's most important that you do something and do it quickly. Otherwise, the next new website that you visit may be just the one that infects your computer and starts stealing your money and your identity later this evening. Just do something about the problem now. Protect yourself.
