Help Us Avoid The Ethanol Disaster

While the hysteria continues to mount about global warming all sorts of “solutions” are being advanced and some are more harmful than others and some are even more harmful than fossil fuels!. Biofuel, as you probably know or can guess from the name, is any energy source derived from living organisms of any kind. The most common biofuel is a blend of gasoline called E85, which means it's 15% gasoline and 85% ethanol. But the actual ratio is subject to change due to the outside temperatrue and it might be better named E70-85. During cold weather, more gasoline needs to be added to the mixture to ensure the fuel works properly, so E85 is at least 70% ethanol.
The fact that E85 needs 15-30% gasoline in the mixture is not the major problem, that factor is really not such a big deal. If everyone was using E85 and the use of gasoline got cut by 70% that would be a tremendous advantage. .
The real problems with Ethanol follow… By 2030, the world population is predicted to rise to such a degree that we would need to increase food production by half between now and then just to keep up. By 2080, food production would have to double. But the rush to biofuels - allegedly environmentally friendly - translates in reality to a reallocation of farm land to growing food for energy purposes.
Predictably, the greater demand has been causative of the rapid increase in the prices of fundamental crops, especially wheat, over the past two years.
Biofuels have been put forward as a means of reducing the toxic gas emissions pumped out by fossil fuels but recent research have been skeptical of how much benefit that they might have when all elements of the equation, such as the use of pesticides and such on the crops, areconsidered. Critics have been angered by the rapid destruction of tropical rainforests, which have been cleared to allow farmers to grow biofuel crops.
Deforestation has been found to account for approximately 18% of world greenhouse gas emissions and many environmentalists view the idea of eliminating forest land in order to grow crops for biofuel to be insane.
So enough about ethanol from corn as a viable alternative energy solution. It ain’t gonna happen!
