Gasoline Prices Down For a Day

The average cost of a gallon of gasoline decreased a wee bit from record levels Tuesday and some lucky people in different parts of the country cashed in on the bonanza saving some pocket change on their purchase, but a new government forecast said gasoline could reach as high as $4 a gallon during the summer driving season.

In its monthly report on petroleum supplies and demand, the Energy Department's Energy Information Administration forecast that monthly average pump prices will peak near $3.60 a gallon in June, but could rise as high as $4 a gallon at times. That's a dime higher than the EIA's previous monthly average projection, and brings government forecasts closer to those of many analysts who expect gasoline prices to peak close to $4 a gallon.
The agency also predicted that gasoline consumption will fall during the peak Summer months due to the rise in prices which will come about because of increased useage during the Summer months. The agency previously said petroleum consumption would rise by 40,000 barrels a day.
Consumption has already gone down for the first time in decades with the decrease increasing since the start of the year.
Americans have been impacted by rising food prices, credit and housing bubbles bursting and this increase in gasoline prices, too.
