Energy Alternatives Is Too Big An Issue For Politicians To Play With

Never ceases to amaze me how duplicitous that almost all politicians can be If you will recall, the first stop on the fixed race for the presidential election was Iowa. What Iowa contributes to the nation and the world is a LOT of corn! And the words coming out of the mouths of the presidential candidates were definitely corny!
It would make one sick to their stomatch to observe this circus of clowns who claim to be the best choice for the highest office in America come out with statements which positioned them as the longest, strongest supporter of corn derived Ethanol at the time when they were trying to win the Iowa caucus.
The issue of corn and Ethanol,specifically, in Iowa is not just another issue it is HUGE. Well sorry folks, but I say f*ck Iowa! But the politicians were not quite so honest.
In the case of John McCain, he did a total flip flop. Because he had said at different times that government support for ethanol actually raises gasoline prices. McCain had been quoted as saying that ethanol made America more energy dependent. He has even questioned the science behind making fuel from corn - contending that ethanol provides less energy than the fossil fuels consumed to produce it. "Ethanol is a product that would not exist if Congress didn't create an artificial market for it. No one would be willing to buy it," McCain said in November 2003.
So how could the same man say, just prior to the Iowa Caucus,
"I support ethanol and I think it is a vital alternative energy source not only because of our dependency on foreign oil but its greenhouse gas reduction effects,"
So what am I getting at? There are millions of people who might live or die, a planet thrives or chokes, the global economy can boom or bust to no small degree based upon what political officials and leaders decide about future energy sources.
And one of the worst options would be Ethanol.
What I have researched on ethanol tells me that the result of a widespread use of it as a primary fuel source could very possibly include an even worse environmental scene, the most severe hunger situation the world has ever seen, rapid increase and shortage of supply of basic crops and foods and other impacts that could be quite devastating.
And the lack of responsibility by the presidential candidates who use alternative energy as just another way to sway voters in their favor would be funny if it was not potentially so tragic.

Still, biofuels are, at best, a huge gamble. They may help cushion the fall when cheap oil vanishes, but if we rely on ethanol to save the day, we could soon find ourselves forced to make a choice between feeding our SUVs and feeding children in the Third World. And we all know how that decision will go.

This drives home the urgency for people, on a grassroots level, to do something effective about finding and utilizing viable alternative energy sources. After all, it is OUR planet and it is OUR lives and there IS something that can be done about it!
