Don't Throw The Same Old Boring Office Party

By: Aazdak Alisimo...

My, hasn't the year gone by fast? We are rolling into the end of the year, which means it is time to throw the annual office holiday party. If you are in charge or involved in putting it on, here is some advice to consider.

Before we discuss festivities, we have to discuss liquid festivities. Yep, I am talking about booze and the office party. Everyone likes a bit of liquid refreshment, but don't over do it. You can ruin the holidays for yourself and your co-workers.

If you drink too much at the office party, you risk being humiliated, emberrassed, filmed and, most importantly, fired. Does any of that sound like a good thing? Probably not, so make sure you don't risk things going horribly wrong.

On to party ideas. Your biggest decision when it comes to the company party will be deciding what type of party you are going to have. Large entities throw big blowouts. Smaller companies, in my opinion, have more fun.

Teamwork is usually a big key in making a small business successful. If you own the business or are responsible for the party, consider throwing it at the boss' house. It can create a bond between everyone and has a friendlier feel than a banquet room in a hotel.

Of course, you are now going to have to come up with food for the festivities. Throwing a potluck isn't a bad idea as everyone has to get involved. If you have a budget to work with, call around to catering companies for some options.

For entertainment, the White Elephant exchange is considered a winner. Everyone brings something from their closet they hate wrapped as a gift and has a value under $30 or so. Gifts are then exchanged and everyone gets a good laugh looking at all the junk.

Sometimes, you just gotta come up with something original. Why not try something like an actual event such as buying everyone tickets to a Christmas play followed by dinner? Just let the ideas flow.

When it comes to these parties, creativity is definitely appreciated. People are tired of the same old thing. Even if the idea crashes and burns, it beats cordon bleu chick and a banquet room.
