A franchise is a business that is created as a clone of a mother business. Starbucks, for instance, looks the same all over the world. The color schemes, the drink names and the methods for creating an end product, the same. This provides uniformity for the consumer which is perfect for some business models.

An independent business, on the other hand, has been created as a single entity with no clones or knockoffs. Independent business may offer more than one location, but often provide the consumer with a more personal business communication.

When it comes to carpet cleaning, both franchise and independent agencies are often available in any given area. In cities with larger populations, the franchise carpet cleaning business may persuade consumers slightly due to brand recall, but this many not be the best choice.

A franchise carpet cleaning business will be given a set of carpet cleaning “rules”. These rules are meant to be universal, in that, they will offer tips on carpet cleaning for all situations, such as stains, wear and tear and the age of the carpet. Herein lies the trouble. A franchise may not know the local area in which they are housed. If there are certain methods of carpet cleaning that work with humid climates, dry climates, and specific soil stains, a local, independent carpet cleaning business may just have a step up on any franchise.

When comparing a franchise carpet cleaning business with an independent carpet cleaning business, the consumer must also take into consideration the heart of the business. An independent business is often a local business, with professional and personal ties to the community. These businesses have often been created from the ground up within a community or area. This type of personalization can not be found with a franchise.

Money, the biggest decider of all, gives the independent cleaner the upper hand, but consumers must think beyond the “best” price. Franchise carpet cleaning businesses often have set pricing schedules with little or no room for price deviation. Independent carpet cleaning companies, on the other hand, tend to have a bit more flexibility. In the long run, you will rarely have to worry about price gouging after the “initial” offer from an independent carpet cleaning company.

The carpet in a home or business is important for the look, the feel and the comfortability of the space. A clean, fresh carpet can speak volumes about you as a person, as well as, your business and their attention to detail.
